My First Ride on the Poetry Train: It was that kind of night

Wrote this a couple weeks ago during Journal Writing with my students. I turned the topic into the title.

It Was That Kind of Night

The sky entered
my mouth
like cold beer
and made me shiver.

The moon
was a cocktail onion
in the martini
of the night

and your eyes,
your whiskey eyes
I got drunk
on a shot
of your
eyes.

I like this poem a LOT. Ironically, it was actually somewhat fitting given the night I just had... (maybe I'll blog some more details about that sometime :)

And with regards to your comment, no engagement here, kinda made me laugh that you said that because I've probably never been farther from it (I'm not in a relationship) but don't worry, its not a bad thing! Was just using the wedding day as an example of an event someone is really supposed to look forward to (and I'm one of them!).

Anyway, thanks so much for the comment, and your other comments, I have really enjoyed all of them. :)

I'm catching up on the Poetry Train and just read this. Wow! That is some cocktail party! This is definitely a poem with attitude and I like it very much.
