I'm Grafeful For
The pink baby blanket
clouds behind the black
skeleton of trees
that I see outside
my living room window
right now.
Decent grades for my
lower level class
on their spelling
quiz today with only
one student spelling
“grateful” wrong.
(Parentheses of alone time)
The glass of merlot
that sits next to me:
liquid garnet.
The quiet, like a sauna,
that surrounds me
as I write this poem.
(Alone time)
The warm fleece that is family.
The umbrella of friends.
The heartbeat of books.
Pats on the back
from bloggers.
And at the end of the day
the sound of my husband’s
diesel engine pulling
into the driveway.

Great things to be grateful for captured in beautiful words
Gratitude where it counts most.
it's those simple, little things that we all should be so thankful for. Nice job once again Lyn! :)
'Liquid garnet' 'warm fleece of family' .....sometimes mere phrases are entire poems.
Lots to be grateful for there. And some lovely words.
This is lovely other Linda, the little things that flavor our lives.
This is such a gorgeous poem! The simple things we should all be grateful for.
This is the perfect description of grateful. I loved it.
Hi Linda, here's another pat on the back. Nice Poem!
What beautiful phrasing for wonderful 'gratitudes'. Nice work!
I really liked how your poem is grounded in everyday life and how it reveals so much that we all have to be grateful for. Your poem shows such a love of nature. And I loved the links to your other blogs, especially NOVL ADVNTURS. Wow! And thank you for visitng.
This is all so wonderful but I was especially captivated by the parenthesis of alone time. :) That's essential to me.

Lovely poem, and much to be grateful for. :)
A delicious little poem. I could see you sitting there so peaceful with a glass of wine, even as I felt a little jealous of your ‘alone time’. Well done!
I loved your wonderufl phrases...'liquid garnet'- I shall think of it that way each time I have a glass of merlot now!
I really enjoyed this..especially the last line; a lovely ending!

Very lovely, and with a happy ending each day.
You sound really contented! What a lovely piece.
You can turn an ordinary day and make it extraordinary with poetry. "The warm fleece that is family." Perfect!
I love the idea of liquid garnet.
The gratitude felt in everyday things... sounds (and silence), relief, support, pleasure and the comfort of the familiar.
A very peacful piece.
That's fabulous! I love the way it's written. I am grateful for (alone time) as well!
