Change for Sunday Scribblings

Not feeling very poetic this week so this is just a news report.

Today, in Massachusetts
on a warm, sunny day
a young girl
on a yellow
school bus,
changed seats
to sit at the front
where it wasn’t
as bumpy.

The bus driver
did not approve
of this so he
yelled at her,
stopped the bus,
and made her
get off
a mile and a half
from her own home.

Guess who’s looking
for a new job
tonight?

Spare, succinct, vivid, and possessed of compelling truth. What's not poetic about it?

No messing there. And it seemed like a poem to me - and judging by the last line, there was some poetic justice in the affair, too.

omg did that really happen Linda?? He is lucky to only need a job and not need an attorney as well. If that poor kid got abducted, killed or god knows what..It would have went much worse for him. and for her? oh no, i don't want to think of it.

The school authorities should also look to their hiring practices! Who said this wasn't a poem. It read like one to me.

This is an excellent poem. I can't believe such a person was hired by a school district. He got what was coming to him. BJ

Justice! Great result

The poem is great. I glad the child wasn't hurt... because it's one thing to be annoyed by a child, it's another to put her life in danger.

The driver got what he or she deserved. This actually happened to my son when he was 7 yrs old, many years ago now. He spilled some food in the bus and was yelled at and put off the bus one afternoon. He had to walk the rest of the way home by himself. The bus driver who did this was a pig of a man and actually rang us up to complain.

Spare, succinct, and tells the story beautifully.

Yeah, these things keep happening on the buses, My son had to pay full fare the other day 'cos the driver didn't believe he was only fifteen. Hope the girl got home okay!

Love the way you recorded this!
