A Voice
My mom started
talking again
last week.
It’s not much
more than
a whisper
but it is a
softness so
welcomed.
For months now
she’s been
mouthing words
and we’ve been
frustrated
lip-readers:
one of the sad
side effects
of cancer.
Hearing her voice
now is like
winning a
hard-fought
soccer game:
Mom-1
Cancer-0
Cheers.
Whoops.
Smiles.

Oh to hear that sweet whispered sound. I can only imagine the elation you feel. I hope your mom continues showing improvement.
I can only imagine what joy it must bring to you to be able to once again hear her words no matter how faint. You are all very lucky indeed.

This is good news. Great to hear.
You should have put Mum 1 Linda 1 cancer nil. All the best.

I'm sure everything she whispers feels like a benediction.

Poignant and sweet.
Oh hearing her voice in any way must feel so nice.Surely must have healed you.
what a gift - to hear that sweet sound again must have been like a ride over the moon into the stars - so sooo happy for you and mum - wish her a happy mother's day from me --- beautiful post, oozing sentiment and joy!!!
You have written this with such tenderness. A lovely piece.
So very moving Linda. HUGS to you both.
Very happy for you and your family
Linda, and certainly your Mother,
who must feel some power has been
restored to her.
I love the way you've written this
poem, gently almost gingerly with
love hemming her up.
Here, for you, healing is a celebration! Cheers to Mom on Mother's Day!
How wonderful! The love shines through and through!
That first line grabbed me. What a gift, even a whisper, and she's yours again. This very simple poem starts and ends with celebration. May it always be so.
I echo Tumblewords thoughts - the love just shines through.
