Healing for Sunday Scribblings

A Voice

My mom started
talking again
last week.

It’s not much
more than
a whisper

but it is a
softness so
welcomed.

For months now
she’s been
mouthing words

and we’ve been
frustrated
lip-readers:

one of the sad
side effects
of cancer.

Hearing her voice
now is like
winning a

hard-fought
soccer game:
Mom-1
Cancer-0

Cheers.
Whoops.
Smiles.

Oh to hear that sweet whispered sound. I can only imagine the elation you feel. I hope your mom continues showing improvement.

I can only imagine what joy it must bring to you to be able to once again hear her words no matter how faint. You are all very lucky indeed.

Very happy for you and your family
Linda, and certainly your Mother,
who must feel some power has been
restored to her.
I love the way you've written this
poem, gently almost gingerly with
love hemming her up.

That first line grabbed me. What a gift, even a whisper, and she's yours again. This very simple poem starts and ends with celebration. May it always be so.

I echo Tumblewords thoughts - the love just shines through.
