Beyond Your Wildest Dreams for Matinee Muse

A Voice

My mom started
talking again
last week.

It’s not much
more than
a whisper

but it is a
softness so
welcomed.

For months now
she’s been
mouthing words

and we’ve been
frustrated
lip-readers:

one of the sad
side effects
of cancer.

Hearing her voice
now is like
winning a

hard-fought
soccer game:
Mom-1
Cancer-0

Heartbreaking to see the people you love the most suffering.

Profound. It is good to see it beaten, one step at a time.

you've poemed your pain and joy with a gentle touch, that pours
right into my heart.

So sorry for your mom, you, your family. I know full well the sadness a family facing cancer feels. Really there are no words of comfort...just grappling onto any bit of normalcy possible!

I love all your poetry!!! Simple, your profound!
