3WW: Dignity, Lacerate, Ripe

Trees

Leaves
ripe as apples

Vines
cling like a child

Bark
a coat of dignity

Branches
pray

My husband
was a logger

He'd pull
the cord

on his
chainsaw

and lacerate
one by one

Saplings
smiled

lifting
their faces

to the naked
sun.

I love it! This terse piece is packed full. Wonderful technique--each little stanza a new perspective.

I often wonder (as trees are alive) if they feel pain. They did some experiments a few years ago and said that they do. I wonder.
Very deep thoughts in this for both sides, as a tree lover, I feel sad for each of their losses but, I'm glad you added the saplings smile.:)

The trees and your words are so beautiful. The "execution" brought tears to my eyes, but I could see those saplings smiling.

I love the conceptof branches praying. When I look upwards in the forest, I always think of being in a cathedral. Lovely poem.
