Look at that foot
hanging in the air
ready to stomp
the ground.
There might be a puddle
or soft grass
underneath
but, that foot
will hit. A new day,
a new life, a new
chance to be me.
I smile
as I step
forward, totter
a bit, regain my balance,
move into retirement.
So glad to arrive at your poem..tried the first link too! I love the idea of stepping into the new page of retirement..I hope it's the start of many good new things..Jae
ReplyDeleteSo many pages in life, aren't there? And retirement is indeed a new page to fill with new adventures.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully expressed; we're all getting there. :-)
ReplyDeleteFeet are amazing things, aren't they. Great poem!
ReplyDeleteYou may retire, but your talent will go on! Maybe a poetry book? Hope so! Always love your thread of words!
ReplyDeleteBig hugs Giggles
I just retired too, so definitely have many next steps to take. thanks.
ReplyDeletewell congratulations! I am a few years out but starting to plan for it - I am actually looking forward to that step (even if it is a puddle/muddle when I get there)
ReplyDeleteapt write.
ReplyDeletesmiles.
"That foot will hit." Exactly. Time will come. Enjoyed your poem, and sharing with your next step.
ReplyDeleteOptimism shows through in that ending stanza -- my favorite line "totter/ a bit, regain my balance". May retirement bring you many good days of writing.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your poem. Don't you just love that thrill of uncertainty, not knowing where your foot will hit, but knowing it will? Reminds me of the proverb I used in my post: A journey begins with just one step, but to get you must keep stepping.
