Morning surfs
into my bedroom
on a butter knife
in between the shade
and the window
creating a riot
of sun pixels
on my quilt,
prompting me
to get up
and write a poem.
But a heavy arm
imprisons me,
pulls me back
into graceful shadows
away from the light
and another poem
dissipates and decays
into scattered words
while I ride a wave
back into night.
This is just a really great piece. A fun read.
ReplyDeleteSo, so much to read into this. Such wonderful imagery, you painted a lush picture with your words, Linda.
ReplyDeleteI've had a few poems die the same way..
Beautifully words. Sometimes poems are lost due to sleep.
ReplyDeleteLove this poem Linda! I especially love the lines: in between the shade/and the window/creating a riot
ReplyDeleteI've experienced this many times...you expressed it very well! It's always frustrating when you know you've lost a good idea due to sleep.
ReplyDeleteVery sweet one..
ReplyDeleteFelt like sinking into a slumber on a chilling morning and yet there are some things in life, I need to gear up and get going...
Beautiful!!
I love your random scribblings..They just rock!
That was really beautiful! I could picture the shades of dawn; it is really a great piece, with a lot of meaning in it!
ReplyDeleteNice one
This is sweet writing! Love how easy this is to visualize as I read.
ReplyDeleteSome great ideas come to me while still half asleep...then I lose them before I wake.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed this
ReplyDeleteooh nice. Your poem has such natural grace.
ReplyDeleteVery nice -- this expresses an experience I've had much too often.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my site.
It's interesting that everybody read this as the author going back to sleep...
ReplyDeleteMe, I pictured the heavy arm as belonging to a lover, who has pulled the author back to bed to make love. The words, "riding a wave back into the night" take on a whole new meaning, then.
I found it to be passionate, lyrical, evocative, and absolutely gorgeous... and, because everyone else was saying it...I too, have lost a poem in this way... ;)
Do you have an anthology out yet? I'd buy it. Your entry is always a favorite for me, and this is no exception. Simply wonderful.
ReplyDeleteOh, this is just lovely. All of you have grown so much since I last posted. Well done.
