Somewhere for Sunday Scribblings

Somewhere

Every time I pick up a book
somewhere becomes real.

Each page is a wing;
each word a footstep.

Somewheres sit on my bookshelves,
a line of geographies.

Today I’m going to visit
the Boston area in two eras

as I finish The Bone Garden
by Tess Gerritsen, who is from Maine.

Tomorrow, another somewhere
will whisk me away.

  5. You've read my mind about books with their multiple somewheres. I purposely didn't read any other posts before writing my own, or I might have written something suggested by this lovely post.

    I hope you have enjoyed The Bone Garden as much as I did.

  14. Very composed descriptions comparing with geography and travel I think your inspiration from that book is amazing. Like photos inspire artists to paint.

  20. Loved your piece. You must have read my mind. I always think opening a book to be likened to starting a great adventure. The author leads you
    on a journey were only he or she knows the final destination.

  25. So many people have posted, Linda, responses to your lovely poem, but one line leaps off the page for me: "Somewheres sit on my bookshelves, a line of geographies". I really liked the way your poem moves from abstract to concrete (Tess Gerritsen's Bone Garden is on my list). And the poem says a lot about "here" as well. Lovely.
